Jean Paul Gaultier paints the town red for couture 2016

Fashion's enfant terrible Jean Paul Gaultier dimmed the lights and upped the ante for his Spring 2016 couture show in Paris Wednesday. In homage to the 1980s cult Parisian nightclub the Palace, the collection was a blaringly loud celebration of all things festive and glam.

From Bowie-mania to enchanted fairytales: Maison Margiela, Franck Sorbier and Elie Saab shine on the couture runways

If there's one thing Maison Margiela specializes in, it's putting on a show, and the couture house didn't disappoint in Paris Wednesday. Under the guidance of star designer John Galliano, the Spring 2016 collection was a riot of influences, each bolder and brighter than the last. The makeup, which included lipstick prints all over the face and neck and zig-zagged eye patches, seemed to be an homage to the late David Bowie, who would almost certainly have approved of the glittering gold boots and metallic trousers on show, and indeed the entire collection channeled the zany creativity that both the musician and Galliano have in common.

Armani Privé, Bouchra Jarrar and Alexandre Vauthier ramp things up at Haute Couture Week

The Italian house put on a show that managed to combine 1960s vibes, 1930s detailing and futuristic structures, all while sticking to a single color palette, rimmed with the occasional injection of black for contrast. This meant lilac leather ankle boots paired with sheer sequinned tops, iridescent, translucent puffball jackets and pleated metallic miniskirts that swished their way down the catwalk. There were petrol-hued bomber jackets, trousers with organza ruffles running down the leg and lampshade-style tops.

In serene garden and wooden house, Lagerfeld fetes nature for Chanel

By Pauline Ades-Mevel PARIS (Reuters) – Known for his extravagant runway settings, designer Karl Lagerfeld led fashionistas into a serene garden on Tuesday at the Chanel haute couture catwalk show in Paris. Having, in previous years, turned the Grand Palais into an airport, a supermarket and a brasserie, the designer, who has been at the creative helm of Chanel since 1983, sent models out of a wooden house down a garden path across a neat green lawn. Lagerfeld said the starting point for the line was “the silhouette” and he puffed up sleeves into oval shapes on Chanel's signature tweed jackets paired with pencil-slim skirts.

Ralph&Russo, Giambattista Valli and Alexis Mabille rise to the occasion at Haute Couture Week in Paris

There was pomp and ceremony on the catwalks of Paris on Monday night, as some of the biggest couture houses showed off their starry collections for Spring 2016. First up was the UK-based house Ralph&Russo, whose fairytale extravaganza of cocktail dresses and ball gowns was as enchanting as it was on-point. From the full-length gloves embroidered with floral patterns to a semi-sheer gown splattered with silver leaves, this was a springtime collection based on sweetness and light, with a healthy dash of red carpet glamour thrown in for good measure.
