Fabric trends for spring/summer 2017: lamé, tulle, nylon and more

Classic staples like cotton, linen, wool, denim, knits, silk and synthetic materials will evidently be on the agenda this spring. At the last round of catwalk shows, held fall 2016, designers showcased creations made with more unusual materials or with seasonal updates of fabrics more often associated with winter. Fans of lightweight fabrics like tulle can channel either romantic or mysterious vibes for SS17, rocking tulle with or without added lace.

Ruffles, stripes and buying now: five themes from London

Ruffles can be romantic and feminine, or over-the-top and girly, but there was no avoiding them at the London catwalk shows this week, from new labels to established big brands. There were centuries-old shapes as designers drew inspiration from history, stripes were big — and of course, the talk was all about selling straight off the catwalk. Cascading down a voluminous blue lace gown or lining a jacket over a tiered skirt, ruffles were everywhere in Turkish designer Bora Aksu's romantic, demi-couture clothes.

Men’s fashion week kicks off third season in New York

Men's fashion week in New York kicked off its third season Monday with a presentation by Perry Ellis, whose athletic, casual take is expected to mark a number of spring-summer 2017 collections. Dozens of designers from Michael Kors to Tommy Hilfiger will present creations over the course of around 60 catwalk shows and presentations, which are expected to conjure a minimalist, relaxed and utilitarian look. Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, the creative duo behind Duckie Brown, will be sitting out the season, after presenting a mere six-look collection in February.

Paris Haute Couture Week: final autumn/winter 2016-2017 show schedule

After the latest round of Paris menswear shows wrapped up Sunday, June 26, the fashion world will start gearing up for haute couture, with a week of catwalk shows running July 3 to 7 in the French capital. The finest in the country's tailoring and expertise will take center stage in various prestigious locations in the city.

Marras to follow Gucci in combining sexes on catwalk

Italian designer Antonio Marras is joining fashion giant Gucci in combining its womenswear and menswear collections into unified catwalk shows from next year — in a second blow to Milan's Men's Fashion Week. The first unified show by the Sardinian will take place at Women's Fashion Week in the Italian industrial capital in September 2017. Gucci announced last month that it was taking its recent embrace of androgynous looks to its natural conclusion by combining shows.

Instagram’s must-follow designers for Paris Fashion Week

Following ready-to-wear designers and fashion houses on social media is a fabulous way to take in Paris Fashion Week. The creative director of women's collections at Louis Vuitton often post shots of campaigns and catwalk shows (among other things) to his Instagram account. As well as being treated to pictures of Vuitton's new collection, his 325,000 followers could get a look behind the scenes at the upcoming Paris show, and maybe even the after-show party.
