By Nita Bhalla NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Popular Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra on Monday apologised for a glossy travel magazine cover after it sparked outrage with social media users accusing her of insensitivity towards refugees and migrants. The 34-year-old former Miss World is featured on the cover of the October edition of Condé Nast Traveller India wearing a white t-shirt with the words, “REFUGEE”, “IMMIGRANT” and “OUTSIDER” crossed out in red — leaving only the word “TRAVELLER”. Condé Nast Traveller tweeted the cover photo on Oct. 7 with the tagline “Bold and fearless, @priyankachopra makes a statement on our 6th anniversary issue cover.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese rock star and fashion designer Yoshiki kicked off the week-long Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo on Monday, taking to the stage to perform music as models strutted by on the runway in his futuristic kimono creations. Yoshiki, co-founder and drummer of rock band X Japan, played the piano and drums during the show for his brand Yoshikimono, which presented kimonos in metallic colors and leather in a modern twist to the traditional garment. Two wounded in break-in at supermodel’s California mansion

An intruder was shot and a security guard stabbed during a break-in at the Malibu mansion of supermodel Miranda Kerr, police and local media reported. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department described the Friday morning incident in a statement, but did not mention the home owner's name. Supermodel Kerr married Hollywood star Orlando Bloom in 2010 and gave birth to the couple's child the following year.

Parfums Christian Dior unveils film for fresh ‘J’Adore’ campaign, starring actress Charlize Theron

Parfums Christian Dior has released a fresh campaign film for its star fragrance “J'Adore”, featuring its long-time Hollywood ambassador, US actress Charlize Theron. The 45-second clip, directed by iconic French photographer and filmmaker Jean-Baptiste Mondino and dubbed “The Absolute Femininity”, opens to a twilight scene of sun-parched plains in lightning storm, with Theron bathing in the rain while her voiceover murmurs the words: “I touch the rain…”. As the rain stops and sun rises in the next shot, Theron continues: “I look at the sun… and it says run”, mirroring her words with actions, setting off across the sun-soaked plains, dressed in a gold gown and drenched from the storm.

Vera Wang serves up dark mystery for powerful women

Designer to the stars Vera Wang perfected the latest trend for structured fashion Tuesday by sending down the runway wool peplums, evening wear decorated with glass pearls and airy ruched skirts. Most famous for her A-list wedding and red carpet gowns favored by the likes of Chelsea Clinton and Hollywood royalty, the veteran New York designer nonetheless prefers black and white on the catwalk. The spring/summer 2017 collection was all about power, craft and mystery she told AFP after the show, which was watched by Tony-winning actress Cynthia Erivo and suspended Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova from the front row.

LONDON (Reuters) – Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Lupita Nyong'o have posed for the 2017 Pirelli Calendar, which features a host of Hollywood's biggest names. The likes of Uma Thurman, Kate Winslet and 'House of Cards' actress Robin Wright are also among the 15 stars who appear in the calendar. The photos were taken by the German fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, who has shot for Pirelli twice before. Other movie greats featured include Alicia Vikander and Helen Mirren, with the photos taken in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Le Touquet and New York. …

By Laurie Goering LEEDS, England (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Thanks to the success of Hollywood disaster films, from “Waterworld” to “The Day After Tomorrow”, it’s not hard to imagine an apocalyptic future as climate change takes hold. If you don’t have any jeopardy, you don’t really have a plot,” said James McKay, an engineer who runs a centre for low-carbon technologies and bioenergy at the University of Leeds, in northern England. “If everything’s going well, there’s not much dramatic tension.” But McKay, who for 20 years has moonlighted as a creator of comics, thinks he has found a way to overcome that: through publishing “graphic novels” that paint a picture, in drawings and stories, of a better future.
