Paris fashion rediscovers its rebel heart

Paris fashion has rediscovered its taste for rebellion with designers playing fast and loose not just with the old rules of couture but also with France's ban on the full-face veil. The mould-breaking French label Vetements — the new darling of the fashion press — staged a show full of teenage revolt and defiance in a cathedral late Thursday, while American Rick Owens flirted with the law by completely shrouding the heads of 14 of his models in veils. The previous year, at the height of the Greek debt crisis, one of his models carried a placard down the catwalk declaring, “Please kill Angela Merkel not”.

Paris Fashion Week: Rahul Mishra – ‘the philosophy of slow fashion is the soul of our brand’

With Paris Fashion Week running March 1-9, we caught up with Indian fashion designer Rahul Mishra whose Fall-Winter 2016 collection will be unveiled on Saturday, March 5 at 6:00 PM local time. The predominant blue that comes from porcelain's heritage also symbolizes the spirit of Paris, the city of love, which emerged with strong resilience and indomitable spirit. Telling tales of Indian textiles, narrating the intricacies of centuries-old craft, and the deep ocean of wealth in handcrafts of India, the journey this season brings on board diverse influences and the timeless tradition of intricately tying and dyeing fabric (Bandhini), further using patterns and designs from porcelain.
