The Belgian designer announced plans last week to show his Fall/Winter 2017 men's collection at New York Fashion Week: Men's next February, making it the brand's debut on the city's catwalks. “Raf is one of the most influential designers on the international fashion stage,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Perhaps Simons is taking a more US-focused approach to fashion following his appointment as chief creative officer at one of the country's most renowned fashion houses, Calvin Klein, which was announced in August.

CFDA urges New York Fashion Week to show true colors

With New York Fashion Week just days away, the industry has big issues on the brain. The letter, signed by Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb, went on to make a point of asking agencies to take an active approach to recruiting and including models of color in castings. It was granted an official title during the Spring 2016 season in New York, when artist and designer Ashley B. Chew sparked the 'Black Models Matter' movement by painting the slogan on her handbag.

Second men’s fashion week kicks off in New York

Men's fashion week kicked off in New York on Monday for a second season, playing catch up after chic shows in London, Milan and Paris. It will also whet appetites for the style explosion and buyers' bonanza that is New York fashion week for women — the main event — due to begin February 11. “The success of the inaugural 'New York Fashion Week: Men's' surpassed our expectations,” Steven Kolb head of the Council of Fashion Designers of America told AFP in an email interview.
