Fencers cross over to the catwalk

A day after star model Gisele Bundchen sashayed down the middle of the opening Olympic ceremony to rapturous applause, the crowd was going crazy for another graceful, long-haired Brazilian model strutting her stuff on the fencing piste. Nathalie Moellhausen, whose sixth-place finish on Saturday was the best ever for a Brazilian woman, has walked for Italian dressmaker Alberta Ferretti and won team gold at the 2009 world championship. “Everything I do in fashion is related to fencing,” said Italian-born Moellhausen, wearing gold earrings of her own design in the shape of swords.

Colour is power for brightly-dressed Queen

Exhibits at the Buckingham Palace show range from her christening gown to the eye-catching bright green wool-crepe and silk dress she wore at one of her 90th birthday celebrations earlier this year. The queen's wedding dress from 1947 and the one she wore at her coronation in 1953 are also exhibited together for the first time in “Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from the Queen's Wardrobe”. “The Queen is well-known for block colour dressing using vivid and bold colours to ensure she is easily visible on important occasions,” Caroline De Guitaut, the exhibition's curator, told reporters.

Hard Rock Cafe fetes 45 years with London memorabilia exhibit

From Madonna's bustier to Paul McCartney's suit, fashion memorabilia from the world of music goes on display at an exhibition in London on Wednesday celebrating the 45th anniversary of the opening of the Hard Rock Cafe. The display, called “Hard Rock Couture”, features items worn as well as instruments played by singers and musicians across the decades, including Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. The Hard Rock Cafe, which first opened its doors in central London before expanding with restaurants worldwide, has what it calls “the world's greatest collection of music memorabilia” — all of which began with an Eric Clapton guitar.
