Vera Wang serves up dark mystery for powerful women

Designer to the stars Vera Wang perfected the latest trend for structured fashion Tuesday by sending down the runway wool peplums, evening wear decorated with glass pearls and airy ruched skirts. Most famous for her A-list wedding and red carpet gowns favored by the likes of Chelsea Clinton and Hollywood royalty, the veteran New York designer nonetheless prefers black and white on the catwalk. The spring/summer 2017 collection was all about power, craft and mystery she told AFP after the show, which was watched by Tony-winning actress Cynthia Erivo and suspended Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova from the front row.

Burberry dazzles, Kane surprises at London Fashion Week

British fashion giant Burberry Prorsum put the sparkle into London Fashion Week Monday, before Scottish designer Christopher Kane took his star-studded audience on a journey into the bizarre. Burberry chief executive Christopher Bailey said the collection, which will be drip fed into stores from June, was inspired by a “patchwork” of influences. “The collection is all the things that I love, a patchwork of all different things from the Mitford sisters to the military and a little bit of glam-rock,” Bailey told reporters back stage after the show, referring to six sisters who fascinated and scandalised British society of the 1930s.

Bondage hits the runway at Paris Fashion Week

The odd-couple mix of bondage and big sizes collided on the Paris catwalk Friday, in clothing that was at once roomy and adorned with nude women who were tied up tight. The risque theme did not stop there, with designer Masanori Morikawa saying he sprinkled the autumn and winter collection with embroidered flowers and elephants to represent male and female naughty bits. “This collection is about tying, like everything, like belts, like buckles, like bondage,” Morikawa told AFP after the show, which was inspired by controversial Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki.
