At the end of each year, the Models.com website asks industry experts and the public to vote for the male and female models who stood out the most over the course of the year. The rapid rise of Bella Hadid — who was unknown just two years ago — could hardly go unnoticed by the fashion world.

UK fines modelling agencies 1.5 million pounds for price-fixing

Britain has fined five modelling agencies and their trade association a total of 1.5 million pounds for colluding and in some cases fixing prices for jobs such as fashion magazine shoots and advertising campaigns. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) regulator said the agencies: FM Models, Models 1, Premier, Storm and Viva often talked with trade body the Association of Model Agents (AMA) about price negotiations with their clients “The parties regularly and systematically exchanged information and discussed prices in the context of negotiations with particular customers,” the CMA said in a statement on Friday.

Tokyo holds its first fashion show for Muslim women

TOKYO (Reuters) – Models wearing an array of colorful hijabs walked down a Tokyo catwalk on Tuesday in what organizers said was the first such fashion show for Muslim women in Japan. Floral patterns were among the designs adorning long robe garments and matching headscarves at Japan's first “Muslimah Fashion Show”, which is taking place as part of a two-day Halal Expo Japan event. Ex-leper takes to Tokyo runway to fight stigma

At 83 Miyo Maki had never manicured her nails, thickened and deformed due to leprosy, a disease she was diagnosed with when she was just 10 years old. Later that day, she walked down the runway, wearing a white lace dress and basking in the limelight long denied to her and other leprosy patients because of an overwhelming stigma against the disease. “I think this show represents a step forward in the history of leprosy,” she said.

Lingerie label Panache has unveiled its latest campaign 'Modeled by Role Models,' celebrating inspirational women from around the world. Among them are Anja Loven, a Danish relief and aid worker who set up the African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF), and Eliza Rebeiro, the British founder of “Lives Not Knives,” an organization that supports young people in education, employment and training. Plus-sized Canadian model Elly Mayday, who was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer and underwent a hysterectomy at the age of 25, and Scottish fundraiser and neuroblastoma survivor Emily Findlay also help front the campaign.

CFDA urges New York Fashion Week to show true colors

With New York Fashion Week just days away, the industry has big issues on the brain. The letter, signed by Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb, went on to make a point of asking agencies to take an active approach to recruiting and including models of color in castings. It was granted an official title during the Spring 2016 season in New York, when artist and designer Ashley B. Chew sparked the 'Black Models Matter' movement by painting the slogan on her handbag.
