OLYMPICS-Masked man powers Italy to water polo win over France

By Joshua Schneyer Aug 8 (Reuters) – One man literally stood out in Italy’s 11-8 Group B water polo win over France. Matteo Aicardi, Italy’s top scorer, donned a bright white mask to protect the broken nose he suffered in the team’s opening victory against Spain on Saturday. ”I’m not a DJ or anything,” Aicardi grinned.

What to look out for at Paris men’s fashion week

With what seems like half of Europe's male population in football shirts for the Euro 2016 championships, Paris designers will try to lift the tone Wednesday with the start of men's fashion week. Nearly 50 fashion houses will unveil their spring and summer collections for 2017 in the French capital, which is also hosting some of the championships' top matches. Balenciaga is staging a men's fashion show for the first time in the history of the aristocratic label which dressed the queens of Spain, Belgium and Wallis Simpson, the divorcee who dreamed of being Queen of England.

Queen’s favourite designer makes stunning Madrid comeback

The Queen of Spain's favourite designer Felipe Varela made a stunning comeback to his native Madrid this week with a daring collection that mixed peekaboo and plunging necklines with metal and Swarovski — but in his trademark impeccable style. Varela first took part in the Madrid Fashion Week in 1996 but stayed away from the city's catwalks for 14 years and his return was the highlight of the event. The intensely private designer is the preferred couturier of Queen Letizia, a former journalist who has donned his suits and gowns several times — a fact painstakingly followed by glossies and newspapers the world over.

Spanish maker of Princess Charlotte dress inundated with orders

By Sonya Dowsett MADRID (Reuters) – A family-run children's clothes shop in Spain has been inundated with orders from around the world for dresses identical to the one worn by Britain's Princess Charlotte in the latest official photos – but has enough cloth to make only 20 of them. “The biggest advertising agency in the world couldn't get this response, it's incredible,” said Margarita Pato, who realised the princess was wearing one of her designs when she saw the photos in Spain's Hola magazine. “In Spain interest has soared, but in England it's almost a revolution,” added the 62-year-old founder and designer of M&H. However, the shop is not going to crank up production in response to the overwhelming demand because there are only 10 metres left of the pink floral fabric used in the princess's outfit – enough to make just 20 more dresses.
