Rijksmuseum puts fashion in the spotlight with ‘Catwalk’ exhibition

The Amsterdam museum is to showcase a large selection of pieces from its fashion collection for the first time, in an exhibition designed by Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf. “Catwalk” will see six galleries at the Rijksmuseum filled with the finest in Dutch fashion from 1625 to 1960, with exhibits including pieces from the Golden Age, vibrantly colored French silk, plus haute-couture ensembles from Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.

As newcomers rub shoulders with industry heavyweights and several major fashion houses await new designers, this edition of Paris Fashion Week — running March 1-9 — is sure to come with its own particular flavor. The current upheaval of designers affecting Paris, as well as Milan, is likely to steal some of the limelight in the French capital, as the industry waits for major Parisian houses Christian Dior and Lanvin to name new creative directors. Buzz-worthy newcomers to the Paris catwalk include Dutch designer Esther Louise Dorhout Mees with her eponymous label Dorhout Mees.

Christian Dior puts on a dreamy display for first couture collection without Raf Simons

When Raf Simons announced in October that he would be leaving Christian Dior after more than three years as creative director, it was left to the luxury French house's creative team to pick up the pieces and stitch them into a Spring 2016 Haute Couture collection that would live up to its famous name. Presented Monday in Paris, that collection struck the perfect balance between the elegant and the risqué, featuring the house's signature lightness of touch and sensual approach to women's fashion.

Paris vows security will not rain on its fashion parade

Paris dusts itself off to reclaim its place as the capital of fashion Wednesday, with the start of its menswear shows amid tight security after the November terror attacks. With some of the world's richest fashionistas due in the French capital for the haute couture collections which follow the 50 or so menswear shows, the organisers are taking no risks. Reinforced security and identity checks have many in the industry fearing long queues which could play havoc with the tightly scheduled catwalk shows.

Provisional dates for the Paris menswear fashion shows

The Fall-Winter 2016-17 menswear collections will hit Paris from January 20 to 24. New additions to the schedule include two Japanese labels: White Mountaineering and Christian Dada.
