Shimmering models wearing the latest creations by Fendi appeared to walk on water Thursday at a fairytale show in Rome's Trevi fountain to mark the luxury fashion house's 90th anniversary. The soft, luxurious collection of 46 outfits was inspired by Danish fairytale illustrator Kay Nielsen, who painted colour plates for the book Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen in 1924 and also later worked for Disney, including on sequences of the film Fantasia.

PARIS (Reuters) – Luxury materials, exquisite craftsmanship and sweeping dresses take center stage at the Paris haute couture fashion shows this week, where designer brands show their autumn collections. Italian luxury label Versace was among the first, kicking off its Atelier Versace show on Sunday evening with belted cashmere coats worn over satin dresses. Models strutted down the catwalk in off-the-shoulder or asymmetric draped gowns, some worn with slim trousers. Other dresses had cut-out features as well as plenty of pleats for the evening. …

Italy’s Ferragamo CEO sees no let-up in luxury sector slowdown

Salvatore Ferragamo will focus on boosting profits this year to combat lower growth in the luxury industry as a whole, its outgoing chief executive said on Sunday. Ferragamo posted a larger-than-expected 5 percent rise in first-quarter core profit in May but revenue fell 2 percent to 321 million euros ($362 million). Speaking before the brand's menswear show at Milan Men's Fashion Week, Chief Executive Michele Norsa said the luxury sector would have to focus on managing risks.

Ralph Lauren hires CFO from rival luxury retailer Coach Inc

(Reuters) – Ralph Lauren Corp has appointed former Coach Inc executive Jane Nielsen as chief financial offer, two days after announcing a sweeping plan to lower costs and revive sales growth at the luxury fashion brand. Nielsen will replace Robert Madore, who has been the CFO since April 2015, Ralph Lauren said on Thursday. Ralph Lauren, which owns the Polo and Lauren brands, said on Tuesday it was cutting about 1,000 jobs and closing 50 stores.
