Owner Sir Phillip Green has confirmed he has signed a deal with existing Topshop partner Shangpin.com to open up to 80 standalone stores across the country. Topshop currently has minimal presence in China, with just a shop-in-shop in Beijing's Galeries Lafayette and two stores in Hong Kong already launched in partnership with Shangpin, a members-only online fashion retailer which offers registered users access to Western brands.

Seven things about Victoria’s Secret you were too afraid to ask

The US lingerie giant Victoria's Secret is holding its hugely hyped annual fashion show in Paris for the first time Wednesday. The brand has already flown in its “angels” — including supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner — in what it called the “world's most glamorous airplane” for the star-studded event at which Lady Gaga will perform. Victoria's Secret may be a household name in the US, but it is almost totally unknown in France, the country that invented lingerie.

Models in hijabs make history at New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week sees a lot of innovation on the runway, but one Muslim designer managed to bring something completely new to the catwalk this year. Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan made history when she had every one of her models wear a hijab. While models have worn hijabs in Fashion Week shows before, this was the first time the entire cast donned a headscarf. Hasibuan is also the first Indonesian designer to have a show at the event. SEE ALSO: Snapchat filters come to life at New York Fashion Week Hasibuan's collection included flowing tunics, gowns and pants with distinctly Indonesian flourishes, such as detailed embroidery and luxurious fabrics. Image: selcur acar/Getty Images Hasibuan was applauded across social media for helping bring Islamic fashion into the mainstream like others before her. In 2015, Muslim designer Hana Tajim collaborated with Uniqlo and Mariah Idrissi appeared in a campaign with H&M wearing a hijab. Hasibuan's show is part of a powerful new trend.  “I believe fashion is one of the outlets in which we can start that cultural shift in today's society to normalize hijab in America so as to break down stereotypes and demystify misconceptions,” Melanie Elturk, chief executive of Haute Hijab, wrote on Instagram.

Georgia’s conservative Olympic outfit scorned by women’s rights activists

By Umberto Bacchi LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Women's rights activists in Georgia have urged the country's Olympic Committee to pick a more liberal design for its female athletes, criticizing the official outfits for next month's opening ceremony at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games as archaic. Inspired by the national costume, the outfit has been a major talking point in the former Soviet republic over the past few days, with many taking to social media to complain it projected the wrong image of the nation abroad. “It's very archaic and conservative,” said Baia Pataraia from the Georgian Women Movement.

Japan’s ‘waddling ducks’ undergo stiletto therapy

Feminists, look away! Fashion police in Japan want to 'empower' women by persuading them to wear high heels, insisting the country's historic 'kimono culture' has led to many women having poor posture. The Japan High Heel Association (JHA) is calling on women across the country to trade sensible shoes for a pair of stilettos, insisting that standing tall will give them 'confidence' — and improve their gait. “Japanese women walk like ducks,” JHA managing director 'Madame' Yumiko told AFP in an interview at her plush Tokyo salon.

Gucci votes ‘remain’: Italian house celebrates UK with anglo-themed cruise collection

Both Christian Dior and Gucci chose English locations for their resort 2017 shows this week — with the later taking over London's Westminster Abbey on Thursday evening in a historical fashion first. Creative Director Alessandro Michele went all-out ‘rule Britannia' on the collection, which ticked all the nationalistic style boxes, sweeping from dreamy printed floral silks to tartan kilts and Union Jack bomber jackets. Michele was thorough in his sartorial homage to the nation — the collection drew inspiration from the country's punk era as much as it did its Gothic Victorian heritage, its penchant for clompy Nineties boots and elegant garden party dresses — “When I think about London I think about gardens, beautiful gardens filled with flowers,” he says.
