Late rock star David Bowie honored at NY fashion awards ceremony

Fashion designers paid tribute to David Bowie, the late British rock star and style icon who died of cancer earlier this year, at an awards ceremony recognizing people whose influence impacted the industry. Actress Tilda Swinton accepted the Board of Director’s Tribute Award on behalf of Bowie’s widow, Iman, at the 2016 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards on Monday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Michael C. Hall, one of the stars of “Lazarus,” the musical Bowie had worked before his death in January at the age of 69, also performed.

David Bowie’s son not gaga over singer’s Grammy tribute

(Reuters) – Lady Gaga wowed the Grammy audience with her multimedia song and dance tribute to David Bowie but the son of the late British singer seemed less than impressed. Gaga's medley of Bowie's biggest hits was punctuated by a torrent of flashing multi-colored lights and images projected on a large screen behind her, including a closeup of her face adorned in “Aladdin Sane: makeup – a nod to one of Bowie's personas – with a spider crawling over her nose.

‘Style king’ Bowie hailed at London men’s fashion week

In the middle of Burberry's London fashion show, a model showed her palms to photographers, displaying a name written in big black capital letters: “Bowie”. To the sound of the late singer's hits, the British label's CEO and creative director Christopher Bailey welcomed the few hundred people invited to the unveiling of Burberry's new menswear collection as London Men's Fashion Week drew to a close. A brilliant and visionary musician, David Bowie experimented with a kaleidoscope of images and styles as a counterpoint to his musical adventures.

The gang of “Droogs” in the film, Bowie drily commented, were “Ultraviolence in Liberty fabrics,” referring to the famous London fashion store. A cobweb bodysuit — with two hands clutching the chest — designed by Natasha Korniloff for a Ziggy Stardust show in 1973 had to be modified at the insistence of a US TV network to remove a third hand thrusting up between Bowie's legs. Bowie always had an eye for emerging fashion talent.
