Gigi Hadid’s top model moments of 2016

The results are in, and Gigi Hadid has been officially crowned 'International Model' of the year at the 2016 Fashion Awards, retaining her place at the very top of the fashion food chain. Having been somewhat typecast as a 'curvy' blonde (by supermodel standards at least), Gigi sent shockwaves rippling through the fashion world when she stepped out onto the Balmain Fall/Winter 2016 catwalk as a brunette for Paris Fashion Week. Starring in Tommy Hilfiger's fragrance campaign 'The Girl' in July, Gigi showed off her playful side, as well as offering a glimpse of the nautical theme that would run through her debut fashion collection, TommyxGigi, launched with the designer in September.

The top five makeup trends from Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week has a reputation for being one of the boldest and most creative of all the fashion cities when it comes to catwalk makeup, and the Spring/Summer 2017 shows certainly lived up to this reputation. Holographic pink highlighter and doubled-up lashes were the key to the doll-like beauty look at Rihanna's Fenty x Puma, where the blusher was applied up to the temples using the 'draping' technique. Glitter lips caused a sensation at Fendi during Milan Fashion Week, and they showed up in Paris courtesy of Maison Margiela.

Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu: the Paris Fashion Week finale

Paris Fashion Week came to a close on Wednesday with strong shows from Louis Vuitton, Moncler Gamme Rouge and Miu Miu. Nicolas Ghesquière headlined the final day of the Spring/Summer 2017 shows with a collection of bias-cut dresses featuring cut-out details, super slim trousers and a color palette that riffed on 80s trends, featuring golden yellows and electric blues. Things took a turn for the patriotic at Moncler Gamme Rouge, where the tricolor pattern of the French flag was used to create sash belts and capes.

Chanel brings back the side ponytail at Paris Fashion Week

The theme might have been the digital age, but the beauty look at Chanel's Spring/Summer 2017 ready-to-wear show in Paris Tuesday was a nostalgic throwback. This was mainly achieved thanks to the hair — Karl Lagerfeld's models strutted down the catwalk wearing their hair tied in low-slung side ponytails held in place with colorful hair elastics bearing charm forms of the brand's iconic 'C' logo. As well as calling to mind some of the best TV shows from the 1990s, the style also made space for a crucial accessory — baseball caps worn chirpily sideways.
