NEW YORK (AP) — Target kicked off New York Fashion Week with a sing-along event Tuesday night at a custom-built piano lounge the cheap chic retailer created, attracting such celebrities as Christie Brinkley, Kendall Jenner and Queen Latifah.

H&M Foundation launches second Global Change Award for a greener fashion future

As of Thursday, the second edition of the award, which will see €1 million in grants handed to brands with bright ideas about how to make fashion greener, is open for applications. There are three separate categories: ‘Circular business models', covering ideas on how to reuse, repair, share, digitalize or extend the life of products, ‘Circular materials', looking for ideas on new fibers, recycling techniques, and leather substitutes and ‘Circular processes', focused on new methods.

French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel dead at 86: family

French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel, the so-called Queen of Knitwear, died on Thursday at the age of 86 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease, her daughter told AFP.

Olivier Rousteing launches collaboration with NikeLab

Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing celebrated his recent collaboration with NikeLab at a launch party held in Paris, France, WWD reports. The collection, “Football Nouveau” went on sale Thursday, June 2, and is the second NikeLab's Summer of Sport series. Racking up the air miles over the past few days, Rousteing has also unveiled an exhibition in Shanghai, China, called “The Circle,” held at Nike's flagship store.

Kering’s Gucci sales growth slows in first quarter, below expectations

French luxury group Kering's flagship Gucci brand posted a lower-than-expected rise in first-quarter sales on Thursday amid a difficult environment for the luxury sector. Gucci posted 3.1 percent growth in comparable sales, below analysts' expectations of 5 to 6 percent and slowing from 4.8 percent growth in the last quarter of 2015. The luxury goods industry has had a difficult start to the year, partly due to the Chinese economic slowdown and a sharp drop in tourist traffic in shopping hotspots such as Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Armani seeks to entice fashionistas in ‘key market’ Russia

Renowned Italian designer Giorgio Armani sought to entice Moscow fashionistas with his latest creations on a visit to Russia amid weaker demand globally for luxury goods. In his first visit to Moscow since 2009, the 81-year old fashion veteran presented and signed copies of his autobiography as well as hosted a catwalk show of his men's and women's autumn/winter 2016/2017 collections. Models strutted down the catwalk in a former electric cable factory in the Russian capital and Armani closed the Thursday show holding a giant Russian nesting doll.

Recording star Beyonce launched a women's fitness clothing line on Thursday featuring bodysuits, leggings and headbands, named in part for her 4-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy. Called Ivy Park, the 200-piece active wear collection is a joint venture with British businessman Sir Philip Green, who owns the Topshop fashion chain. It will go on sale at selected Topshop and high-end department stores around the world on April 14.

Chloé and Balmain soften up Paris Fashion Week

Chloé was the latest fashion house to champion the independent woman at Paris Fashion Week Thursday, with a collection channeling escapism and adventure. Titled, “Romantic Voyager,” the Autumn / Winter 2016 collection celebrated “a woman's journey along the road less traveled,” combining a wanderer's wardrobe with light and feminine pieces. Knitwear was spiced up with geometric jacquards and multicolor hand-knotted wool, and the whole collection dotted with encrusted lace and floral jacquard details.
