Strobing trends but the natural beauty look still dominates at New York Fashion Week

Barefaced beauty ruled the catwalks at New York Fashion Week, but there were some splashes of color in the city's Spring/Summer 2017 makeup look. Championing the trend for scrubbed-bare-don't-care beauty was, unsurprisingly, Alexander Wang, whose 'no concept' makeup look was a hit during the Autumn/Winter 2016 shows a few months ago. Matte was the key trend here, with the models showing no signs of being made up at all, apart from a layer of mascara and shine-free faces.

The hottest trends from Haute Couture Week

With the bi-annual fashion frenzy that is Haute Couture Week over for another six months, we can reflect on the trends that the Fall 2016 shows brought to the catwalks of Paris last week. Armani Privé emphasized the exposure by keeping the legs and neck covered, while Elie Saab went for maximum impact, teaming V-necks that finished at the waist with equally daring thigh splits. Dior took a more demure approach, balancing out the look with puffball sleeves and Iris Van Herpen opted for a dramatic look that combined a deep neckline and an off-the-shoulder cut.

Retro waves and bleached-out brows: beauty trends from Milan Fashion Week

There was much to learn from the beauty looks seen on the catwalks of Milan Fashion Week last week. Salvatore Ferragamo slicked the waves down flat to the head using wet-look gel for an androgynous look, adding a low-scooped ponytail at the nape of the neck for a contemporary twist. Emporio Armani used bright lash extensions to add a paradisiac flutter to his show.

The Most—and Least—Diverse Catwalks at New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week helps set the stage for the year’s upcoming trends, with the 2016 extravaganza featuring sneaker stilettos, neckties molded into hats, and trash bag–inspired skirts. Pricy denim brand R13 featured only one person of color out of 21 models strutting down the catwalk.

Genderless fashion blurs lines on London catwalks

Genderless fashion is the buzzword for many of today's top designers, highlighted at London Fashion Week by a string of androgynous touches on the catwalks. From Christopher Kane's heavy, dark, asymmetric tailoring to Burberry's parade of male and female models in military overcoats and aviator jackets, masculine styling repeatedly stood out in the women's autumn/winter collections. It's not just in London where designers are experimenting with preconceptions about gender and identity.

New York Fashion Week gets nostalgic

There was a distinct whiff of Americana on the catwalks of New York at the start of the week, as the Autumn / Winter 2016 ready-to-wear collections offered throwbacks to a simpler time. Tommy Hilfiger led the way with an ocean liner-themed collection that riffed on the traditional glamour of transatlantic travel. Also channelling a very American, although albeit more East coast, vibe was Tory Burch.

Patchwork is a major ready-to-wear trend this season

Patchwork was definitely back in the Autumn-Winter 2015-16 collections, as it was seen in a vast array of pieces in all different types of fabric. Let's take a look at the most beautiful patchwork colors, finishes, and patterns showcased on the catwalks. Leather re-emerges for Fall-Winter 2015-2016

If you can only keep one thing in mind from the Fall-Winter 2015-2016 runway trends, it should be leather, the must-have material for the season. Leather has always been associated with rock music, particularly in the form of the iconic leather jacket, and it has never really left women's wardrobes in ready-to-wear and accessories. This comeback is also due to the strong 1970s trend which could still be seen on the catwalks in the Fall-Winter 2015-2016 collections.
