Fabric trends for spring/summer 2017: lamé, tulle, nylon and more

Classic staples like cotton, linen, wool, denim, knits, silk and synthetic materials will evidently be on the agenda this spring. At the last round of catwalk shows, held fall 2016, designers showcased creations made with more unusual materials or with seasonal updates of fabrics more often associated with winter. Fans of lightweight fabrics like tulle can channel either romantic or mysterious vibes for SS17, rocking tulle with or without added lace.

Dior to honor its famous designers with new book collection

The House of Dior is celebrating its 70th anniversary by honoring each of its designers throughout history with a series of reference books. Gianfranco Ferré, who became the first Italian to head up the house in 1989, and John Galliano, who took up the role in 1996 but was dismissed amidst controversy over alleged anti-Semitic remarks in 2011, will also get their own volumes. Two works focusing on Belgian designer Raf Simons, who acted as the house's Creative Director from 2012 to 2015, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, who was unveiled as the first woman to be given the job in July this year, will complete the collection.

Dior Cruise: a love letter to England

Post-war high society fashion was the inspiration behind Christian Dior's 2017 cruise collection, so it was only fitting that the show took place on Tuesday evening at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill and current residence of the aristocrat the Duke of Marlborough. Designers Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux, responsible for leading the French house's creative team, injected the show with an element of wanderlust, while simultaneously portraying the English countryside and its traditions through flashes of hunting red, rustic tweeds and crisp poplins. There were grand structures, in the form of full sleeves and gathered peplums, with tight basques and draped tea dresses referencing founder Christian Dior's original 'New Look' silhouette.
