British Fashion Council announces shortlist for Designer Menswear Fund

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has revealed the designers shortlisted for its BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund. The prestigious award will see the winner receive a £150,000 grant (about US$217,000) to grow their label, as well as £50,000 value (about US$72,000) in kind services and 12 months of mentoring from industry experts. Urban label Sibling, which hit the headlines earlier this year with a River Island collaboration, is one of the shortlisted British brands, alongside designer Christopher Raeburn, who is famous for his work repurposing military fabrics.

LVMH reveals finalists in fashion’s fiercest competiton

Following a presentation of their collections on March 2-3, the 23 shortlisted up-and-coming talents have been whittled down to just eight contenders for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers Prize have been revealed. New York designer Brandon Maxwell's eponymous label has also made the cut, alongside “Koché”, by French designer Christelle Kocher, “Vejas,” by Canadian Vejas Kruszewski and “Wales Bonner,” by English talent Grace Wales Bonner.

Dolce and Gabbana, the designers who were once Italy's most famous gay couple, put the fairytale back into fashion on Sunday, days after Italy's Senate voted to legalise same-sex civil unions. The duo must have called upon every available golden-locked model in Milan for an ode to all things princessey that was also an unabashed celebration of living happily ever after. With the tone set by invitations which, on opening, played “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes,” from Disney's 1950 animated version of “Cinderella”, this was a celebration of true and enduring love in all its forms.

By Marie-Louise Gumuchian MILAN (Reuters) – Milan began six days of catwalk shows on Wednesday with Italian luxury brands Gucci and Fay among the first to show the creations their designers hope will fill women's wardrobes next winter. Gucci, under new designer Alessandro Michele, presented a vibrant and colorful autumn/winter 2016/2017 collection called “Rhizomatic Scores”. From one-colored outfits — including a pink furry coat teamed with pink tights, shoes, neck scarf and bag — to clashing print jacket and trouser or skirt combinations and designs emblazoned with snake patterns, Michele presented a selection of eclectic looks.

Three fashion designers to watch out for in 2016

While 2015 is not yet over, the fashion industry is already turning its attention to 2016 and the next season's runway shows which, in Paris, will start with menswear on January 20. This gives us an opportunity to start from scratch, and take a look at the designers and creative directors who will shape the fashion world next year. Jonathan Anderson or J.W. Anderson, who won the menswear and womenswear designer prizes at the most recent British Fashion Awards, has unquestionably been the designer of the last few seasons.
