‘Tis the season to window shop in New York

From a whimsical enchanted winter forest-scape to candy-laden backdrops for festive fashion, New York department stores have spent a year conjuring up eye-catching holiday window displays. “Right when they start coming down, we start thinking about what's going to be the vision for next year?” said Roe Palermo, divisional vice president, store visual of New York department store Lord & Taylor, which is part of Hudson's Bay Co . The store has been creating window displays since 1937 and estimates that a million people pass by the windows daily during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

New York Fashion Week breaks out designs for all seasons

By Patricia Reaney NEW YORK (Reuters) – More designers at New York Fashion Week broke out of the industry's long-established mode of showing clothes meant to be worn in six months' time by sprinkling wear-now fall looks among catwalk presentations largely focused on next spring. “Instant gratification, that is the mantra of a whole generation of people, and when they see it they want it, and we are going into the fall season so it makes a lot of sense,” said Roseanne Morrison, fashion director at trends forecaster The Doneger Group. Marc Jacobs' spring-focused show at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday was all glitter and glam as dreadlocked models strutted in mini dresses, embellished satin shorts and platform shoes.

India acid attack survivor redefines beauty at NY Fashion Week

By Patricia Reaney NEW YORK (Reuters) – An Indian model scarred in an acid attack challenged perceptions of beauty as she strutted down the runway at New York Fashion Week to promote a ban on the sale of corrosive substances used to maim thousands of women and children each year. A smiling Reshma Quereshi, 19, opened the FTL Moda show on Thursday to applause in a long-sleeve, white gown with embroidered appliques by Indian designer Archana Kochhar during her first trip to the United States. The buzz and glamour of the event was a world away from Allahbad, India, where she suffered severe facial burns and lost an eye two years ago after being attacked with sulfuric acid by her estranged brother-in-law and two men.
