What to look out for at Paris fashion week

Saint Laurent, Dior and Lanvin all have new artistic directors who will be putting on their first shows in their new roles. With more than 90 runway shows and dozens more presentations behind closed doors over nine days, the spring-summer ready to wear collections promise to be the most scrutinised for some time. How will Anthony Vaccarello face up to the massive challenge of filling Hedi Slimane's Chelsea boots at Saint Laurent is the question on many fashionistas' lips.

Weird and wonderful moments of fashion week

NEW YORK (AP) — “If you build it, they will come.” That seemed to be one of the mantras of New York Fashion Week. Tommy Hilfiger built a carnival on a Manhattan pier, including actual rides, a Ferris Wheel, arcade games, a tattoo parlor, and cotton candy for everyone. And Ralph Lauren built a greenhouse-like glass structure on Madison Avenue, commandeering the block and stopping traffic in the most literal way.

Models in hijabs make history at New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week sees a lot of innovation on the runway, but one Muslim designer managed to bring something completely new to the catwalk this year. Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan made history when she had every one of her models wear a hijab. While models have worn hijabs in Fashion Week shows before, this was the first time the entire cast donned a headscarf. Hasibuan is also the first Indonesian designer to have a show at the event. Image: selcur acar/Getty Images Hasibuan was applauded across social media for helping bring Islamic fashion into the mainstream like others before her. In 2015, Muslim designer Hana Tajim collaborated with Uniqlo and Mariah Idrissi appeared in a campaign with H&M wearing a hijab. Hasibuan's show is part of a powerful new trend.  “I believe fashion is one of the outlets in which we can start that cultural shift in today's society to normalize hijab in America so as to break down stereotypes and demystify misconceptions,” Melanie Elturk, chief executive of Haute Hijab, wrote on Instagram.

Alexis Mabille brings a fairytale touch to haute couture

The French fashion designer unveiled an autumn/winter 2016-2017 haute couture collection in Paris, Tuesday, July 5, with the theme “Pastel Vibrations.” Alexis Mabille brought a fairytale touch to this soft and romantic color palette, showing a line-up of princess-worthy gowns and ensembles. Delicate, feminine, romantic and sometimes dramatic, the Alexis Mabille autumn/winter 2016-2017 haute couture collection took onlookers to a fantastical realm, even if the show's décor was firmly grounded in reality. The designer's waltz of princess-style silhouettes was set on a catwalk in the central courtyard of one of Paris's typical Haussmann buildings.
