Movers and shakers: the hottest fashion promotions of 2016

The year was off to a dramatic start with the announcement in March that Paris designer Bouchra Jarrar had been named the new artistic director of Lanvin. Jarrar replaced Alber Elbaz, who had left the luxury fashion label under a cloud of controversy the previous October. YSL revealed in April that ex-Versus Versace creative director Anthony Vaccarello would be filling the position vacated by Hedi Slimane.

Versace’s Versus brings swagger to London Fashion Week

Under low lights and with a pumping soundtrack, bright young things wearing black leather and slouchy ripped denim put some swagger into London Fashion Week, courtesy of Donatella Versace. There were cutaway dresses exposing the shoulder and stomach, with a silver zip running down the back, and pleated and leather mini-skirts — one with the belt left provocatively open — matched with leather jackets. Bonded mesh dresses and crop tops brought a sporty edge to the collection, which also featured cropped, zip-up bomber jackets, military-style knits and washed out ripped denim with metal and crystals sparkling underneath.

Roberto Cavalli names former Versace head as new CEO

Italian fashion group Roberto Cavalli said on Thursday it had named former Versace head Gian Giacomo Ferraris as its new chief executive as it seeks to relaunch under a new owner. Ferraris, an engineer who also worked for Italian luxury groups Gucci and Prada, radically turned around Versace in his seven years at the company, increasing revenue and cutting debt and bringing it back to profit only two years after being appointed. “The profound knowledge of the sector and the important professional experiences of Gian Giacomo Ferraris will allow Roberto Cavalli to consolidate the path of relaunch that is at the base of the company's development plans,” Cavalli said in a statement.

Vaccarello quits Versace as rumours mount of move to YSL

Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello quit Versace Monday, the Italian brand announced as speculation mounted that he was about to take over at Yves Saint Laurent. The rumour mill has been working overtime since Hedi Slimane left YSL last Friday, with many fashion insiders convinced that Vaccarello would succeed him. Donatella Versace seemed to hint that Vaccarello — who comes from an Italian family — was going onto greater things when she said that he was standing down as creative director of her Versus label.

Versace says designer Vaccarello to leave company

Italian fashion house Versace said on Monday that Anthony Vaccarello would step down as creative director of its Versus Versace brand, in a move seen as a prelude for the Belgian designer to join Yves Saint Laurent. The French brand, which belongs to luxury group Kering, announced last week that its creative director Hedi Slimane was leaving and a source told Reuters he would be replaced by Vaccarello. Vaccarello, who is a fan of asymmetric designs, was seen as a potential replacement for Slimane as he will be able to provide more of the rock chic designs that Slimane introduced and which have proved popular for the Yves Saint Laurent brand.

Versus Versace reveals an urban, military inspired collection for autumn/winter 2016

Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Versace's sister line, added a rebellious touch to the collection's urban vibe for autumn/winter 2016. While keeping the codes of the Versus line, this new collection brings a gritty, even rebellious edge to the label's autumn/winter looks, in a range of urban, sporty, sometimes boyish ensembles. It's this toughness that we capture in the new Versus Versace collection — the individual attitude of the new generation,” explains Donatella Versace.
