Men’s fashion week opens with nod to British seaside

Topman Design went to the British seaside for its latest collection Friday, kicking off four days of men's fashion in London. J.W. Anderson, Christopher Kane, Barbour and some of Savile Row's top tailors are among those showing at this season's London Collections: Men, the twice yearly celebration of masculine style in the British capital. Topman Design, part of the Topshop high-street fashion stable, opened the event with a show featuring cropped sweaters in soft pinks or blues, washed denim jackets, boxy puffa jackets and jewelled white tracksuits.

Gucci votes ‘remain’: Italian house celebrates UK with anglo-themed cruise collection

Both Christian Dior and Gucci chose English locations for their resort 2017 shows this week — with the later taking over London's Westminster Abbey on Thursday evening in a historical fashion first. Creative Director Alessandro Michele went all-out ‘rule Britannia' on the collection, which ticked all the nationalistic style boxes, sweeping from dreamy printed floral silks to tartan kilts and Union Jack bomber jackets. Michele was thorough in his sartorial homage to the nation — the collection drew inspiration from the country's punk era as much as it did its Gothic Victorian heritage, its penchant for clompy Nineties boots and elegant garden party dresses — “When I think about London I think about gardens, beautiful gardens filled with flowers,” he says.

Flower girls storm the runways for Resort 2017 collections

Christian Dior set the tone, with the French house's English-inspired show replete with country florals in the form of draped tea dresses and sheer blouses covered in springtime patterns, mixed in among all the pictorial jacquards, rich velvets and silks. The humble garden pansy formed the basis of Christopher Kane's entire collection, recreated as a larger-than-life photo motif that was splashed over everything from oversized knits to floaty dresses, at times even dictating the shape of the garment.

Dior Cruise: a love letter to England

Post-war high society fashion was the inspiration behind Christian Dior's 2017 cruise collection, so it was only fitting that the show took place on Tuesday evening at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill and current residence of the aristocrat the Duke of Marlborough. Designers Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux, responsible for leading the French house's creative team, injected the show with an element of wanderlust, while simultaneously portraying the English countryside and its traditions through flashes of hunting red, rustic tweeds and crisp poplins. There were grand structures, in the form of full sleeves and gathered peplums, with tight basques and draped tea dresses referencing founder Christian Dior's original 'New Look' silhouette.

Spend the summer in Italy with Dolce & Gabbana’s new makeup collection

The collection tells the story of medieval knights and dames, traditions and the love of beauty. Inspired by the playful shades of the ambiance and citrus fruits of the Mediterranean, the collection is centered around bright, cheerful and sunny colors for the face, lips, eyes and nails. The Mediterranean Sea was the inspiration for The Perfect Mono Eyeshadow in Turquoise, while a cool Lemon shade references the zesty lemon trees found in the courtyards across Italy.
