The news comes not long after the sale of DKNY and its parent company Donna Karan International (DKI) to G-III Apparel Group, with the co-creative directors commenting in a statement, “Given the company sale and subsequent change in strategies, we have decided to step down and focus on our own business Public School.

By Jessica DiNapoli NEW YORK (Reuters) – American Apparel LLC plans to file its second bankruptcy in just over a year as soon as Monday, weighed down by intense competitive pressures facing U.S. teen retailers and a rocky relationship with its founder, according to people familiar with the matter. The company became a part of popular culture for its racy advertising and mercurial founder, Dov Charney. American Apparel has been trying to find a buyer for the company, and began discussing a possible sale with brand licensor Sequential Brands Group Inc as well as financial services company B. Riley Financial Inc after talks with brand licensor Authentic Brands Group LLC stalled.

LVMH selling Donna Karan brand to US group G-III Apparel

PARIS (AP) — French luxury giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton is selling its Donna Karan and DKNY clothing brands to U.S. group G-III Apparel in a $650 million deal.

DK heading back to NY

French luxury group LVMH said Monday it had sold ready-to-wear group Donna Karan International to US clothing manufacturer G-III Apparel in a transaction that values the company at $650 million (592 million euros). The move will see ownership of the Donna Karan and DKNY brands return to New York where they were launched by the US designer in the 1980s. “Donna Karan International is an iconic global fashion company,” said Morris Goldfarb, chief executive of G-III, which owns the Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger labels.
