French luxury group LVMH said Monday it had sold ready-to-wear group Donna Karan International to US clothing manufacturer G-III Apparel in a transaction that values the company at $650 million (592 million euros). The move will see ownership of the Donna Karan and DKNY brands return to New York where they were launched by the US designer in the 1980s. “Donna Karan International is an iconic global fashion company,” said Morris Goldfarb, chief executive of G-III, which owns the Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger labels.

Bulgari aims to have up to six stores in Russia over 10 years

Bulgari, the flagship jewelry brand of luxury group LVMH , plans to open up to four more stores in Russia over the next ten years, betting on the long-term prospects of its luxury market. The company is the second luxury brand to signal its confidence in the Russian market after French luxury group Hermes tripled the selling space of one of its two Moscow shops in December. Bulgari Chief Executive Jean-Christophe Babin told Reuters in an interview the company's two Moscow outlets opened so far were “a minimum” even though some customers had become more cautious because of the weaker rouble.

Kering’s Gucci sales growth slows in first quarter, below expectations

French luxury group Kering's flagship Gucci brand posted a lower-than-expected rise in first-quarter sales on Thursday amid a difficult environment for the luxury sector. Gucci posted 3.1 percent growth in comparable sales, below analysts' expectations of 5 to 6 percent and slowing from 4.8 percent growth in the last quarter of 2015. The luxury goods industry has had a difficult start to the year, partly due to the Chinese economic slowdown and a sharp drop in tourist traffic in shopping hotspots such as Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Designer Vaccarello to replace Slimane at YSL: source

By Astrid Wendlandt PARIS (Reuters) – French luxury group Kering is expected to announce as soon as Monday that Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello will be the new creative director of fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent, a source told Reuters on Friday. Vaccarello will replace Hedi Slimane, whose departure was announced earlier by Kering. Vaccarello, who specializes in designing the “little black dress” and is a fan of asymmetric designs, has been rumored as a potential replacement for Slimane as he will be able to provide more of the same rock chic designs that have proved so popular for the Yves Saint Laurent brand.
