Bolivian designer exports high-end indigenous fashion

Centuries ago, Spanish colonizers forced their Bolivian servants to wear the puffy skirts that have come to symbolize the country's “cholitas,” or indigenous women. Today, one local designer is turning the tables with plans to export high-end cholita fashion — blossoming skirts, bowler hats and intricately woven shawls — to Madrid, Paris and beyond. Fresh off her first show at New York Fashion Week, Eliana Paco, a 34-year-old indigenous Aymara designer, is ready to bring her take on a once-stigmatized style to the world.

Queen’s favourite designer makes stunning Madrid comeback

The Queen of Spain's favourite designer Felipe Varela made a stunning comeback to his native Madrid this week with a daring collection that mixed peekaboo and plunging necklines with metal and Swarovski — but in his trademark impeccable style. Varela first took part in the Madrid Fashion Week in 1996 but stayed away from the city's catwalks for 14 years and his return was the highlight of the event. The intensely private designer is the preferred couturier of Queen Letizia, a former journalist who has donned his suits and gowns several times — a fact painstakingly followed by glossies and newspapers the world over.

Pouts and selfies as models Derek and Hansel back for ‘Zoolander 2’

Male models Derek and Hansel are back on the catwalk in fashion comedy sequel “Zoolander 2”, returning with their famous pouts, poses — and a record-breaking selfie to capture them. On a blue carpet that evoked his trademark “blue steel” pout, Derek Zoolander himself, actor Ben Stiller, helped set a record for the longest selfie stick at the movie's London premiere on Thursday night. With co-stars Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell beside him, Stiller held the stick, said to be some 8.5 meters (27.89 ft) long and with a mobile device attached to it, above them for the snap.

Spanish maker of Princess Charlotte dress inundated with orders

By Sonya Dowsett MADRID (Reuters) – A family-run children's clothes shop in Spain has been inundated with orders from around the world for dresses identical to the one worn by Britain's Princess Charlotte in the latest official photos – but has enough cloth to make only 20 of them. “The biggest advertising agency in the world couldn't get this response, it's incredible,” said Margarita Pato, who realised the princess was wearing one of her designs when she saw the photos in Spain's Hola magazine. “In Spain interest has soared, but in England it's almost a revolution,” added the 62-year-old founder and designer of M&H. However, the shop is not going to crank up production in response to the overwhelming demand because there are only 10 metres left of the pink floral fabric used in the princess's outfit – enough to make just 20 more dresses.
