Bella Hadid is Model of the Year 2016

The youngest of the Hadid sisters rounded off a busy year by being named “Model of the Year Women 2016,” Thursday, December 22, by website Models.com. At the end of each year, the Models.com website asks industry experts and the public to vote for the male and female models who stood out the most over the course of the year. The rapid rise of Bella Hadid — who was unknown just two years ago — could hardly go unnoticed by the fashion world.

Russian babushkas break stereotypes with fashion shoots

In Russia, elderly women are usually expected to forget about fashion and watch their grandchildren. Not 71-year-old Olga Kondrasheva, who is fighting stereotypes by modelling for a glossy magazine. “I'm over 70 now but my life is just beginning and it's so interesting,” says Kondrasheva, slim and sporting wavy white hair, a few minutes before a studio photoshoot for the Russian edition of Cosmopolitan magazine in central Moscow.

Givenchy’s S/S 2017 ad campaign celebrates juxtapositions of style

On Wednesday, December 21, Givenchy unveiled the first shots of its S/S 2017 ad campaign which plays with juxtapositions of style, age, and decor: the French fashion house shows us its creativity extends to all men and women. The Italian model Vittoria Ceretti's star has been rising for several seasons now, with a raft of big fashion and beauty brands interested in working with her. In addition to this campaign for Givenchy, she recently featured in photo shoots for Alberta Ferretti and Saint Laurent, and has done catwalk work for Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Chanel and Valentino's S/S 2017 collections.

Dior's next cruise collection could be shown in Los Angeles reports WWD. Reports suggest that the first cruise collection from Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior's new creative director, could be shown in LA on May 11.

New York Fashion Week: menswear show schedule

As the final fashion capital to host its fall/winter 2017-2018 menswear collections, New York takes center stage January 30 to February 2, 2017. With a schedule that's seen its share of changes, Raf Simons will present a collection on the New York runway for the first time, Wednesday, February 1, while Boss will reveal its latest menswear creations, January 31.

Australian Fashion Foundation names hot new talent in annual awards ceremony

The Australian Fashion Foundation (AUSFF) has revealed the winners of its 2016/2017 annual internship program. Womenswear designer Deanna Fanning and menswear designer Hannah Tan took home the top prize, receiving a financial grant and internship opportunities worth more than AU$20,000 (approximately US$14,500). The up-and-coming duo will be able to complete their internships in the US or Europe, stopping in Hong Kong on the way to meet with industry experts at textile brand The Woolmark Company's new Wool Resource Centre to learn about the industry and the key manufacturers, spinners and weavers in China.

French fashion house Dior has unveiled the advertising campaign for its spring/summer 2017 collection, the first ready-to-wear line overseen by new creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri. In the spirit of the catwalk show, which previewed the collection in September, the Italian designer's feminist values play a key role in the project, designed by, with and for women. The eagerly awaited Dior spring/summer 2017 show caused a sensation back in September, when the fashion world discovered the label's first collection from Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first female creative director in the history of the French fashion house.

Topshop and Topman to expand to China

British brands Topshop and Topman are set to expand into mainland China reports WWD. Owner Sir Phillip Green has confirmed he has signed a deal with existing Topshop partner Shangpin.com to open up to 80 standalone stores across the country. Topshop currently has minimal presence in China, with just a shop-in-shop in Beijing's Galeries Lafayette and two stores in Hong Kong already launched in partnership with Shangpin, a members-only online fashion retailer which offers registered users access to Western brands.
