Milan Fashion Week: Fendi brings springtime colors, fur and frills to the autumn/winter catwalk

As usual, elegance and fur were firmly on the agenda, but Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi brought a cool, funky vibe and a fresh feel to this season's collection. The show's funky undertone was felt even before the first models took to the catwalk, as two eye-catching guests — Piro-chan and Bug-kun — were attracting attention on the front row. The tone of the collection was set from the very first catwalk look, showcasing the season's main inspirations right from the outset in one ensemble.

Prada goes handbag heavy in bid to revive flagging fortunes

Prada's answer to stagnating sales was unveiled on Thursday with a handbag-heavy Fall-Winter collection that the company's executives hopes will mark a revival in the fortunes of the fashion heavyweight's flagging fortunes. Miuccia Prada's latest offering had a post-World War II feel about it with sailor and nurse-style caps abounding alongside cape-shaped coats and pencil skirts designed to emphasise the slender waists of more austere times. Prada could do with this collection being a major hit after two consecutive years of stagnating sales and no sign of an end to the slowdown in China that is hitting it particularly hard.

Queen’s favourite designer makes stunning Madrid comeback

The Queen of Spain's favourite designer Felipe Varela made a stunning comeback to his native Madrid this week with a daring collection that mixed peekaboo and plunging necklines with metal and Swarovski — but in his trademark impeccable style. Varela first took part in the Madrid Fashion Week in 1996 but stayed away from the city's catwalks for 14 years and his return was the highlight of the event. The intensely private designer is the preferred couturier of Queen Letizia, a former journalist who has donned his suits and gowns several times — a fact painstakingly followed by glossies and newspapers the world over.

Romance blooms at Luisa Beccaria Milan fashion show

MILAN (Reuters) – Floral embroidery, bird brooches and rich velvet materials added a touch of romance at Milan Fashion Week on Thursday with Italian designer Luisa Beccaria presenting a soft, feminine womenswear collection. Reminiscent of fairy tale heroines, models wore velvet corset tops over chiffon off-shoulder blouses and later sweeping gowns. For day wear, Beccaria and her daughter Lucilla Bonaccorsi offered tartan-like, dark turquoise and black checked knitwear, tweed coats, flower-embroidered velvet jackets matched with cropped trousers and chiffon floral-printed dresses. …
