Converse poised to launch ‘Essentials’ apparel collection

American shoe company Converse will launch a line of basic apparel dubbed “Converse Essentials” this week, in a bid to strengthen its spot in the clothing market. Focused on minimalist silhouettes, the capsule collection consists of “mainstays” like t-shirt, sweatshirt, hoodies, pant and backpack. Converse Essentials for men, which will launch simultaneously, is set to mirror the women's offering, with six core items offered in five colors — with a unisex collaboration called “Converse x Fragments” with streetwear designer Hiroshi Fujiwara dropping in limited edition for the launch.

Several designers will make their debuts for some of the world's top luxury labels in Paris, which is the final leg of the womenswear spring/summer 2017 catwalk calendar after fashion weeks in New York, London and Milan. Fashionistas are eagerly awaiting the debut of new Christian Dior artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who joined from Italian fashion house Valentino and presents her first line for the French brand on Friday.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat Monday, top agent for male models Elizabeth Rose, Head of the Men's Board at Premier Model Management, spoke out about the disparity in wages between male and female clotheshorses. “The top 10 female models all make millions,” she told the site.
