Vera Wang veered away from her identity as fashion's hottest bridal designer with a collection that featured swathes of black and navy.

Designer to the stars Vera Wang perfected the latest trend for structured fashion Tuesday by sending down the runway wool peplums, evening wear decorated with glass pearls and airy ruched skirts. Most famous for her A-list wedding and red carpet gowns favored by the likes of Chelsea Clinton and Hollywood royalty, the veteran New York designer nonetheless prefers black and white on the catwalk. The spring/summer 2017 collection was all about power, craft and mystery she told AFP after the show, which was watched by Tony-winning actress Cynthia Erivo and suspended Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova from the front row.

Teen Indian acid survivor to grace NY catwalk
A 19-year-old Indian woman whose face was brutally disfigured in an acid attack will walk the catwalk in New York next month in her first trip overseas. Reshma Qureshi, who lives in Mumbai, was attacked by her brother-in-law and pinned down by his friends who doused her face in acid in 2014. The daughter of a taxi driver, she was filmed wiping away tears and smiling when told by the charity Make Love Not Scars that she would be flying to New York.
Burberry to replace Bailey as CEO with Céline’s Gobbetti
British luxury brand Burberry has recruited Marco Gobbetti, the Italian boss of French brand Celine, to succeed Christopher Bailey as chief executive next year, freeing Bailey to focus again on the design role that made his name. Burberry said he would retain his creative role and also take the title of president.

PARIS (Reuters) – Luxury materials, exquisite craftsmanship and sweeping dresses take center stage at the Paris haute couture fashion shows this week, where designer brands show their autumn collections. Italian luxury label Versace was among the first, kicking off its Atelier Versace show on Sunday evening with belted cashmere coats worn over satin dresses. Models strutted down the catwalk in off-the-shoulder or asymmetric draped gowns, some worn with slim trousers. Other dresses had cut-out features as well as plenty of pleats for the evening. …

Prince ‘Purple Rain’ outfit sold at auction for US$192,000
The items were part of a showcase in the recent “Profiles in History” auction that took place from June 29 to July 1, and were reportedly acquired after a a make-up artist who worked on “Purple Rain” gave the items to her sibling, the original seller, noted Rolling Stone. The 1984 Oscar-winning film is one of the star's most iconic works — although, according to the auction house, the outfit was scheduled to headline their Hollywood Auction before Prince's death on April 21 this year.

Chanel brings glamor back to Cuba in catwalk extravaganza
By Sarah Marsh HAVANA (Reuters) – French fashion house Chanel brought glamor back to Communist-ruled Cuba on Tuesday in a runway show on one of Havana's main boulevards, featuring glittering gowns, tulle cocktail dresses and models in Panama hats smoking cigars. Chanel is the first major fashion house to hold a runway show in Cuba, highlighting both warming relations with the West and new inequalities on the island. Former Cold War foes the United States and Cuba formally agreed to restore diplomatic relations last July.
