Yoshiyuki Miyamae for Issey Miyake: ‘The theme this season is microcosm’

Ahead of Paris Fashion Week (September 27 to October 5), Relaxnews caught up with designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae, creative director of Issey Miyake, whose spring/summer 2017 collection previewed September 30 at 10:30am. The cut of the pattern itself is straight-lined and simple, but using techniques such as 3D Steam Stretch and Baked Stretch gives the clothes a unique texture and three-dimensional form. What or who inspired this collection?

Marc Jacobs sparkles as NY Fashion Week wraps up

Marc Jacobs, the creme de la creme of American designers, brought New York Fashion Week to a glittering finale Thursday, delivering a must-see show starring multi-colored dreadlocks and towering platform boots. In keeping with the artistic, theatrical look of his clothes, Jacobs took over the Hammerstein Ballroom, a former opera house, that gave A-list guests Whoopi Goldberg and Courtney Love, as well as the assembled press, a stunning view. The stage was bathed in white, then soft pink from hundreds of naked light bulbs suspended from the ceiling, as some of the world's most famous models — including Karlie Kloss, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner — sashayed past.

Was ‘Iceman Otzi’ a Copper Age fashionista?

The 5,300-year-old Alpine mummy known as the Tyrolean Iceman died wearing leather clothes and accessories harvested from no less than five wild or domesticated species, a DNA analysis published Thursday revealed. Frozen solid after being fatally wounded by an arrow in the back, the brown-eyed, Copper Age nomad, nicknamed “Otzi”, was discovered in 1991 in the Otztal Alps between Italy and Austria. A team led by Niall O'Sullivan, a researcher at the Institute for Mummies and the Iceman in Italy (and University College Dublin), put nine samples from Otzi's leather accoutrements under the microscope to determine their origin.

Designers parade brands as New York Fashion Week ends in limbo

By Elizabeth Barber NEW YORK (Reuters) – With the future of fashion shows in limbo, top name designers used New York Fashion Week to erase any doubts about their own brands, making definitive statements about the clothes and lifestyle that critics and shoppers alike can expect from them. Diane von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Nicole Miller and other designers strove to make their mark during the week-long event that ends on Thursday, targeting both buyers and editors sitting runway-side and the consumers who increasingly dictate want they want and when they want it. Von Furstenberg told Reuters her Fall 2016 collection, shown at her downtown Manhattan headquarters, was key to “reminding everyone what this brand is about.” Karlie Kloss, joined by fellow models Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn, described “the DvF woman” as someone who knows who she is and who she wants to be.
