Yiqing Yin becomes first Chinese-born haute couture designer

The first Chinese-born designer was admitted Thursday into Paris's elite coterie of haute couture creators. Yiqing Yin, who recently quit as artistic director of Leonard to concentrate on her own label, is also one of the youngest, at 30. Haute couture exists only in Paris and is sustained by a small number of the world's richest women.

A gift from former U.S. President Ronald Reagan fetched top price in a sale of ex British prime minister Margaret Thatcher's personal possessions which raised more than 3 million pounds ($4.5 million) overall, auctioneer Christie's said. Reagan's gift to Thatcher of an American bald eagle figure fetched the highest sum, 266,500 pounds, and was sold to an online buyer. Known as the “Iron Lady”, Thatcher was Britain's longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century.

Beth Ditto and Jean Paul Gaultier have joined forces to design a new t-shirt. The fashion designer and the musician have created the ‘Corset Tee', an oversized shirt featuring a lithograph print of a corset similar to the one featured in Madonna's ‘Blonde Ambition' tour. The shirt is part of a plus-sized clothing line Ditto has in the pipeline, set for a February launch.
