Chiuri at Dior targets Millennials with eclectic wardrobe

By Astrid Wendlandt and Pascale Denis PARIS (Reuters) – Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior's first woman designer, on Friday took the fashion brand in a new direction with a maiden eclectic collection aimed at connecting with young consumers and re-invigorating sales. Chiuri, who arrived at Dior in July after two decades at Valentino, put together in five weeks a wardrobe that mixed “sport couture” with street style and fairy tales. “The collection is eclectic just like women are eclectic, they like to mix different things and create their own personal style,” Chiuri said after the show.

By Nita Bhalla and Jatindra Dash NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Authorities in India have raided mica mines, arrested traders and begun steps to regulate the underground industry, local officials said, after a Thomson Reuters Foundation expose revealed a cover-up of child deaths in illegal mica mining. A three-month investigation in the mica-producing state of Jharkhand found that a flourishing black market had resulted in at least seven children being killed since June, mining for the prized mineral that adds sparkle to makeup and car paint.

Fashion designer Hussein Chalayan unveiled on Friday his collaboration with technology giant Intel at his Spring/Summer 2017 runway show at Paris Fashion Week. Chalayan's SS17 collection and runway show featured connected, wearable accessories powered by Intel technology, including never-before-seen glasses and belts. Powered by the Intel® CurieTM module, a tiny, low- power hardware product, the glasses gather biometric data from the wearer, using sensors that monitor brainwave, heart rate and breathing data to infer stress in real time.
