Armani, DSquared2 and Arbesser close out Milan Fashion Week

MILAN (AP) — Not just individual styles but the entire fashion process was under discussion at Milan Fashion Week this year. Counter to trends in New York and London, Italian industry executives underlined that, beyond a few capsule collections and a handful of runway teasers, there would be no rushing Milan's designs from the runway into stores.

Armani applies a velvet touch to suit revival

Giorgio Armani showed his velvet touch on Monday as he brought down the curtain on a Milan fashion week heralded as marking a revival of the suit-based womenswear he pioneered in the 1980s. Velvet has always been one of the Milanese maestro's favourite materials and it is ubiquitous in his autumn-winter collection: black as the darkest night and, as he put it in his collection notes, dense, tactile and mysterious. The first two models to emerge from backstage set the tone: the first in a tightly-tailored three-quarter-length black velvet coat over predominately pink slacks, the second in a cropped, pink suit jacket worn atop black velvet trousers.

Armani’s black velvet, Missoni’s knits wrap Milan fashion

By Marie-Louise Gumuchian MILAN (Reuters) – Giorgio Armani wrapped Milan Fashion Week on Monday with a fall collection for his main line dedicated to luxurious black velvet. The 81-year-old Italian, whose designs were worn by Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio and nominee Cate Blanchett at Sunday's Academy Awards, made the material the protagonist of his autumn/winter 2016/2017 line, using it in trousers, tops, coats and glittering evening wear. Models stepped onto the catwalk in round collared black velvet jackets paired with wide leg trousers.

New pop at Emporio Armani, practical wardrobe from Etro in Milan

By Marie-Louise Gumuchian MILAN (Reuters) – The digital age was at the forefront of the Emporio Armani fashion show in Milan on Friday with Italian designer Giorgio Armani dotting his womenswear fall line with bold colorful shapes. In a mainly black collection with flashes of bright color, the 81-year old Armani softened day suits with looser silhouettes in an apparent nod to the 1980s, reinforced by multi-colored jumpers and plenty of sequins. From simple to sparkly, frocks vie for style stakes at BAFTAs

This year's British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards brought out lots of black, white and bold red from top designers. Kate Winslet, who won the supporting actress category for “Steve Jobs” wore a black one-shouldered, asymmetric Antonio Berardi gown while “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson and “Game of Thrones” actress Emilia Clarke both opted for red. Last year's winner Julianne Moore dressed in a white and black Giorgio Armani gown and “The Great Gatsby” actress Isla Fisher sought simple elegance in a white fitted Stella McCartney frock.

The mane event: hair trends from Milan Men’s Fashion Week

There was an overwhelming trend for long hair on the runways, with several labels sending their models down the catwalk with luscious strands breezing out behind them. At Vivienne Westwood, the look was rocky and slightly bedraggled for an insouciant look, while over at Calvin Klein the models wore their shoulder-length locks in neat, flicky layers with lashings of shine spray and a slick center parting for added glamour. Giorgio Armani models wore theirs loose and soft.

Armani Privé, Bouchra Jarrar and Alexandre Vauthier ramp things up at Haute Couture Week

The Italian house put on a show that managed to combine 1960s vibes, 1930s detailing and futuristic structures, all while sticking to a single color palette, rimmed with the occasional injection of black for contrast. This meant lilac leather ankle boots paired with sheer sequinned tops, iridescent, translucent puffball jackets and pleated metallic miniskirts that swished their way down the catwalk. There were petrol-hued bomber jackets, trousers with organza ruffles running down the leg and lampshade-style tops.
